In 1881 F.H.A. Scrivener published his work entitled "The New Testament in the Original Greek according to the text followed in the Authorised Version together with the variations adopted in the Revised Version." This marked the first time the Greek text followed by King James' translators was printed. In order to reconstruct the text used by the translators, Scrivener took Beza's 1598 text as his base and where he found the KJV had not followed it, he replaced that reading from Beza's 1598 with one of the other 16th century printed Greek texts that were available to the translators: the Complutension Polyglott (1514), the Antwerp Polyglott (1572), Erasmus' (1516, 1519, 1522, 1527, 1535), Aldus' (1518), Colinaeus' (1534), Stephanus' (1546, 1549, 1550, 1551), or Beza's (1560, 1565, 1582, 1589). In places where the KJV's rendering seems to be based on the Vulgate rather than any of the listed Greek texts, Scrivener retained the best matching of the listed Greek texts (there was no backtranslating from the KJV or the Vulgate into Greek). The text was reprinted in 1894.

The present edition contains a stripped down version of Scrivener's Greek text, by which is meant that accents, punctuation, capitalization and subscript iota have all been ignored (i.e. left out). This edition also only presents the Greek text followed by the KJV of 1611 and does not note the variations adopted by the English Revised Version. It should also be noted that the Greek text presented here is a reconstruction of the text followed by the 1611 edition of the KJV, and that modern versions of the KJV differ slightly from the 1611 edition.
